USI Physical Activities Building (PAC) Renovation / Expansion
The project initiated with development of an Athletic Facility Master Plan that included a detailed needs assessment of current space needs for the Department of Athletics and Department of Kinesiology and Sports as well as an evaluation of the existing 84,000 SF Physical Activities Center (PAC), to create a road-map for improving the outdated facility to better align with current programming needs and the higher expectations of today students and athletes. Following a multi-phased approach, the initial phase included construction of the new 4,800 seat multi-use Screaming Eagle Arena, added to the west side of the existing PAC Building.

Phase II includes renovation of the remaining spaces in the PAC building in addition to an expansion on the north elevation creating a cohesive, performance driven facility that includes a training center, basketball practice facility, team locker rooms, academic center, alumni hospitality suite, and new offices for coaches, new building entry and lounge and complete integration of the new Screaming Eagle Arena and original PAC building into a contiguous complex.

Also included with the second phase is a new natatorium designed for competitive and recreational use. When completed, the 225,600 SF athletic complex will elevate the University’s Division II athletic programs to a level more often found at Division I schools, greatly enhancing the University’s ability to attract new students and student athletes while elevating the campus’s identity as USI looks toward the future.
