THE HEIGHTS - Community Center and Library Renovation
Facility upgrades and improvements to the 73,000 sf Community Center and Branch Library were implemented following an initial Programming and Master Planning study and needs assessment. Numerous planning diagrams and conceptual cost models were then explored to determine the best approach for improving the 20-year-old facility.

After considering a full range of design options, the City established a project budget of $6.35 M for the new upgrades. Roughly half of the budget was direct towards a complete replacement of the indoor recreational pool. The remainder of the budget was carefully used to maximize the impact the improvements would have to the community. Project outcomes focused on: improving the aesthetic quality of the facility, reorganizing space to enhance existing programs; providing new spaces for expanding program offerings, and creating greater flexibility, efficiency and visual identity throughout.

To achieve these goals, the project enhancements included a new roof, replacement of the existing indoor recreational pool and Natatorium upgrades, renovation of locker/shower rooms, conversion of the west half of the existing gymnasium into three highly flexible group exercise studios on the main level, with expand Weight-Fitness area above. An underutilized open lounge area overlooking the lobby below was enclosed in glass and converted into a secure, multi-purpose room for expanded library programming. On the opposite side of the lobby an open area for stretching on the upper level was also enclosed in glass to create greater privacy for patrons and while greatly reducing the noise level at the control desk below.
